Liverpool face a difficult trip to Sunderland tomorrow and if we are going to keep alive any faint hopes of getting into 4th then we need to start winning again in the league. 1 win in the league so far in 2012 is simply not good enough.
It has been masked a little by cup successes, which were overdue, but if we are going to progress then dropping points as frequently as we have been really has to stop. If we'd managed to take the points last Saturday then there wouldn't be too much of an issue.
But the problem was that Saturday was a must win game. The reason we are now fucked is that we lost. 10 points off 4th is too much to make up, even with a game in hand, is too much. It's too much for 2 reasons. Arsenal's form being one and quite predictably, our form being the other. I can't see is making any bites out if the gap this weekend, because even if we do win tomorrow Arsenal are going to wipe the floor with Newcastle.
Hopefully I'm wrong - they won there last year, inspired by Andy Carroll if memory serves, but Arsenal will actually be confident after getting knocked out of Europe. Failing to overcome their embarrassing display at the San Siro.. coming closer than expected. There can't be many sides who've gone out after winning 3-0... shouldn't have quite so shit in the first leg then I suppose.
